Yahoo! Avatars U.K. & Ireland

Week 9, NUMBER 23!!!! The End!!!!

In Week 1, I stated that "Beginning with an end in Mind" was easy for me. I can now say that it's the truth!!! Many times when I wanted to quit I thought about the final prize - an MP3 player and CEU's! As much as I griped about doing the 23 tasks, I have to admit that I learned some things that I would not have otherwise tried. I especially liked the Web 2.0 Awards list. I will use this in the future. When I recieve my MP3 player I will download some walking tours of various cities and will download audiobooks using Overdrive!

I didn't like having to make so many accounts. It's a good thing I printed out all the logins and passwords. I don't think I will be doing any personal blogging, because I don't like having my life exposed to the world. I am glad I took this opportunity to learn about blogging however, because now I at least have a little idea of what it's all about!

Week 9, Number 22 - Almost There!!!!!!!

This week's task was to learn about downloadable audiobooks. CCPL has a connection to Overdrive right on the homepage. To access it you only need your card number and pin. Easy! The ebooks cannot be downloaded from a library computer so I had to upgrade my home computer to use Overdrive. This took quite a lot of time. When I finally downloaded a title it said the there was a problem with the license. Frustrating! I will try again when I get my MP3 player. To access NetLibrary a personal account was needed. I have so many accounts now that I didn't want to make another one. I did however listen to some books on the Gutenberg Project. These were read by a computer and the voice was not pleasant to listen to.

Week 9, Number 21

I now know what a podcast is! I didn't know that it was only audio and was looking for the picture! At first I looked for podcasts on knitting. That didn't work because you really need to see the patterns. Then I discovered the National Geographic Walking Tours. I can see that they could be useful in my travels. I created a feed on Bloglines. Then with lots of help, I was able to put a link on my blog. Do you see it? My kids will be so proud of me!!!!!

Week 9, Number 20

This week I played with YouTube. Some videos were funny, some were gross, and some were a total waste of time. I chose "A pitbull and chicks" to share, because I think pitbulls get a bad rap! It's their crazy humans who make them aggressive.

Week 8, Number 19

Today I went to the Web2.0 Awards page. Since I like to travel I focused on City Guides and Reviews. I went to the top winner Yelp.com and explored. I often look for gluten free foods in the cities I travel to. I was able to get some health food stores and restaurants in some of the cities I explored. Often there were comments posted on these too. I can see this being helpful when I travel.

Week 8 Number 18

I went in to Google Docs and Spreadsheets. I made a spreadsheet of books I have read. It was just like using a Word doc. I didn't publish it because the comments were my personal opinions and I didn't want any authors coming back to me! If you want to know what books I liked, just ask! Heck, I'm on the "Do not call list" because I don't want unwelcome strangers invading my private time so I'm not ready to put myself out for the world to criticize!

Week 7 Number 17

OK. So I added an entry to the Learning 2.0 Sandbox wiki. Now everyone can see my boring blog. I do not like being this accessible on the internet.

Week 7 Number 16

We use wikis to share information and files. Groups of people can share and edit information on the same web page. At our library we use wikis on our staff Intranet to post minutes of meetings. It's a great way for groups to share ideas.

Week 6 Number 15

I think I'm just starting to get the idea of LIbrary2.0 and then I go on to read that there will be a Library 3.0 (3-D) then even a library 4.0. I get frustrated that when I learn some new technology before it can sink into this thick skull it's already obsolete!!!!! I have a headache!!!!

Week 6 Number 14

At first my mind was boggled because there was just TOO much information. But I thought I would try a search on Technorati. During a recent trip to Alaska I was able to purchase some quiviut ( yarn made from the underfur of a musk ox). I have been looking for a pattern to make a smoke ring scarf. Lo and behold I found two! While I am not yet ready to post my blogs it was fun to see what other knitters are saying. However it takes time to sift through all the junk!

Week 6 Number 13

I can see how Del.icio.us can help organize bookmarks. There are times when I'd like to get to my bookmarks from an outside machine. But I'm just not ready to put it all out there for everyone to see "especially when I saw that habit #5 was "Stalk other users" Yikes! This all scares me!!!!!!

Week 5 Number 12

I created a Rollyo account and created a search roll for reference sites. Perhaps some day this will prove to be useful. I'll have to play around with it a bit more!

Week 5 Number 11

I signed on to "Library Thing" and listed some books I have read recently. Find this at

Week 5 Number 10

Week 4 Thing 9

Saturday, June 23, 2007

Today I signed up for Merlin. It was easy to subscribe to. I also explored some other news feeds. I really like topix.net because I think it will be useful when customers ask about local news events.

Week 3, Number 7

Now here's a good use for gaming!!!! One I could actually get into to!!! Heaven knows! I could use all the help I can get!!!!!

Jun 15, 6:00 AM (ET)By YURI KAGEYAMA

TOKYO (AP) - Japanese women may soon be tapping on the hit Nintendo DS handheld game machine for beauty tips, such as taking extra fluids and monitoring skin tones.
"Dream Skincare" is part of recent efforts by Nintendo Co. to attract newcomers to
gaming. Until recently, the gaming crowd has largely been young men fond of shooting and sports games.
But the Nintendo DS - which comes with two screens, including a touch panel - has been a big hit with older people and women with new kinds of games such as brainteasers and virtual pet games.
Players input their daily body temperature and weight by marking a graph that shows up on the touch panel, according to Konami Corp. (
KNM)
The game, which Konami describes as "beauty navigation
software," asks questions that the player answers such as skin tone and smoothness, as well as exposure to sunlight and hours of sleep.
Advice on a daily regimen for healthy skin pops up on the screen, including directions to drink more water, or to eat apples and ginger, food that had a reputation for warming up the body.
Hormonal balance is key for avoiding wrinkles and age spots, and body temperature and weight fluctuations are good indicators for any hormone swings, which can get awry from overwork and stress, according to Konami.
Overseas sales for "Dream Skincare" are undecided. It's set to go on sale in October in Japan for 4,500 yen ($37).
"Many women want to
maintain forever young and beautiful skin," Konami said in a statement.
The game shows
video clips of Chizu Saeki, a Japanese beauty expert, giving tips on facial massages and skin-checkup techniques.
It also gives recipes designed to keep women looking good, and advice on womanly manners, said Konami, which has tended to make less feminine games like "Metal Gear Solid."
Nintendo, the Kyoto-based company behind the
Super Mario and Pokemon games, has shipped more than 40 million Nintendo DS machines worldwide.
The company is also widening the appeal of gaming with its Wii home console, which comes with a wandlike remote for virtual tennis and other easy-to-play games.

Week 1 Thing 2

The easiest task for me is "Beginning with an end in Mind" I want those CEU's!
The hardest task is "Create your own Learning Toolbox"

First task

Wow! I did it! I think!!!!!
